Launch of the International Max Planck Research School for the Anthropology, Archaeology and History of Eurasia (IMPRS ANARCHIE) on October 15
Stephen Shennan will lecture on „Patterns of long-term change in the European Neolithic“ to mark the opening of the new International Max Planck Research School for the Anthropology, Archaeology and History of Eurasia on 15 October.
The department `Resilience and Transformation in Eurasia` in cooperation with the Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg is launching a new International Max Planck Research School devoted to the investigation of diachronic processes in Eurasian societies and cultures. The IMPRS aims to overcome theoretical and methodological boundaries between anthropology, archaeology and history and to renew cross-fertilisation of the three disciplines.

Am Dienstag, den 09.10.2012 findet um 18 Uhr s.t. mit einem Vortrag von Herrn Prof. Dr. Werner Schiffauer zum Thema "Die Administration von Diffusion – Zur Logik der Islampolitik in Deutschland" das Semester Opening des Forschungsschwerpunkts und der Graduiertenschule Society and Culture in Motion im Seminarraum in der Reichardtstr. 6 statt.
Der Vortragende, Werner Schiffauer, ist Inhaber des Lehrstuhls für Vergleichende Kultur- und Sozialanthropologie an der Viadrina Universität in Frankfurt an der Oder. Er ist in Deutschland und weltweit für seine Studien zum Thema Migration und Islam bekannt.
Öffentlicher Vortrag am IGK Halle / Tôkyô am 16. Juli
Das internationale Graduiertenkolleg `Formwandel der Bürgergesellschaft Japan und Deutschland` im Vergleich lädt ein zu einem öffentlichem Vortrag mit paneldiskussion. Am Montag, den 16. Juli, spricht im Kollegiatenraum Hoher Weg 4 um 14 Uhr s.t. Prof. Dr. Naoshi Yamawaki (Tôkyô University) zum Thema "Bürgergesellschaft nach 1968 im deutsch-japanischen Vergleich".

Society and Culture in Motion: Plenary Meeting on June, 19
Am 19. 6. 2012 findet um 18 Uhr das für dieses Semester vorgesehene Plenary Meeting des Forschungsschwerpunkts und der Graduiertenschule im Seminarraum in der Reichardtstr. 6 statt, zu dem alle Mitglieder des Schwerpunkts und der Graduiertenschule herzlich eingeladen sind.
Das Treffen beginnt mit einem Vortrag von Hillel Steiner, Emeritus Professor of Political Philosophy and Honorary Research Fellow, University of Manchester, der in diesem Semester als Christian Wolff-Gastprofessor an der MLU ist. Das Thema seines Vortrags lautet "A Famous Conflict".
Im Anschluss an den Vortrag wird Herr Prof. Kaufmann durch die Diskussion führen.

First International Meeting of the GRK 1591, 15 - 17 March 2012
The Graduiertenkolleg 1591 (GRK1591), a DFG-funded training program for doctoral students, seeks to reveal and characterize the nature and role of regulatory mechanisms directing gene expression at the posttranscriptional level. These involve the regulation of mRNA processing, turnover, translation and, in certain cases, directed transport of mRNAs to subcellular cytoplasmic compartments. Major known regulators of mRNA fate are RNA-binding proteins and non-coding RNAs such as microRNAs in higher eukaryotes and small noncoding RNAs in bacteria. A particularly important and rapidly evolving area of research explores the impact of posttranscriptional control mediated by RNA-binding proteins and non-coding RNAs on pathogenesis. The international meeting of the GRK1591 aims at providing a platform to discuss latest developments in the field of posttranscriptional gene regulation and how these impact the initiation and progression of disease on the molecular level.
Workshop des Promotionsstudiengangs 'Sprache – Literatur – Gesellschaft' am 31.1. und 1.2.2012
Am 31.1. und 1.2. 2012 wird in Halle ein vom Promotionsstudiengang `Sprache – Literatur – Gesellschaft` organisierter Workshop zum Thema: Autobiografischer Stil in der Gegenwartsliteratur. Narrative Funktionen und Identitäts-Konstruktionen der Figur des Ich-Erzählers, stattfinden. Exposés von max. 1 Seite werden bis zum 5. Dezember erbeten.

The Graduate School Society and Culture in Motion will held the workshop "Missionary Activities: Challenging Cultural and Religious Paradigms at Home and Abroad" on January 19-20. The workshop is organised by the PhD candidates Hami Inan Gümüs, Stefan Knauß, Claudia Ulbrich and Adadow Yidana.
