iDiv Summer School 2019

We are happy to announce the iDiv Summer School 2019 "Citizen Science – Innovation in Open Science, Society and Policy", 21 to 28 August 2019, in Leipzig, Germany!

During the seven summer school days, participants will be immersed into different topics in integrated biodiversity sciences through citizen science in theory and practice. The lead teachers are Aletta Bonn    iDiv/UFZ Professor and Head of the research group Ecosystem Services   , and Dr Anett Richter   , Postdoc at the Ecosystem services group.

The course will address different aspects of citizen science as an innovative tool for open science, society and policy. It will deliver new insights into the values and tools of and in citizen science. Participants will also gain hands-on experiences on how to do citizen science and will work on two research projects with an opportunity to present results at the iDiv conference that takes place immediately after the summer school (29 to 30 August 2019).
The summer school aims to attract early career scientists (graduates and post grads) from around the world with an overall interest in integrated biodiversity research using participatory approaches to bridge science, society and policy.

The application deadline for the course is Sunday, 5 May 2019.

FEM POWER calls for Applications: Professionalization through Coaching

With the programme “Professionalization through Coaching” the Martin-Luther-University establishes a new format of career advice for female researches. The programme addresses doctoral and postdoctoral researchers as well as professors with the aim to further their careers, support them in a leadership role or to identify their potential.
The closing date for applications is 5 April 2019.

FEM POWER – Women into Science is a EU-funded project at the MLU with the goal, to promote equal opportunities for women and men.

Ausschreibung von Stipendien nach dem Graduiertenförderungsgesetz des Landes Sachsen-Anhalt

Zum 1. April 2019 werden gemäß dem Graduiertenförderungsgesetz Stipendien für die Graduiertenförderung an der Martin-Luther-Universität vergeben. Über die Stipendienvergabe befindet die
Graduiertenförderungskommission der Universität.
Förderungsleistungen kann erhalten, wer durch weit überdurchschnittliche Studien- und Prüfungsleistungen eine
besondere Befähigung zu wissenschaftlicher Arbeit erkennen lässt und sich nach einem abgeschlossenen Hochschulstudium auf die Promotion an der Martin-Luther-Universität vorbereitet. Das wissenschaftliche Vorhaben muss einen wichtigen Beitrag zur Forschung erwarten lassen und von einer Hochschullehrerin oder einem Hochschullehrer der Martin-Luther-Universität betreut werden. Für Promotionen, die von einer/einem im Ruhestand befindlichen Hochschullehrer/in betreut werden, können keine Förderungsleistungen bezogen werden.

Anträge sind über die Fakultäten bis zum 31. Januar 2019 an den Vorsitzenden der Graduiertenförderungskommission, Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Paul, zu richten.

Teaching & Research Assistantships

Teaching Assistantships (TA) and Research Assistantships (RA) are supposed to give PhD students hands-on experience in research and teaching as well as strengthen internationalisation of research and teaching at our University. TA and RAs support research and teaching by providing courses for students, supervision of student projects, by collecting and analysing data or preparing publications and conference contributions. Besides, the assistantships may help to partially cover the living costs of PhD students.
Applications have to be submitted together by the scientific supervisor and the doctoral candidate to the International Office. All applications will be reviewed by an independent commission of University professors from different scientific fields. For the selected candidates the International Office will make a request towards the Human Resources Department for a contract as a graduate assistant.

PhD Finalisation Grant

The PHD Network is pleased to offer a few PhD Finalisation Grants to PhD students who are in the final phase. We invite you to hand in an application if you fulfill the eligibility criterias. We ask that you read the FAQs carefully and make all necessary inquiries prior handing in the application.
Requirements for a funding are a good acamedic performance and a successful completion of doctoral studies within one year (maximum) of the time of application.
The PhD Finalisation Grants pursue the objective to secure for international doctoral candidates who are suffering hardships through no fault of their own the finalisation of their doctoral studies. The amount to be granted will be 400,00 € each month for a period of up to six months in total (starting at the earliest on 1 March 2019). This call for applications is subject to final approval of the DAAD.
The deadline for applications is the 18th of January 2019.

7. Ausschreibung des Mentoring-Programms für Postdoktorandinnen
im Universitätsbund Halle-Jena-Leipzig

Das Mentoring-Programm für Postdoktorandinnen der Universitäten Halle, Jena und Leipzig startet im Juni 2019 in seine 7. Programmrunde. Bislang wurden bereits 108 promovierte Wissenschaftlerinnen aller Fachrichtungen der Universitäten Halle, Jena und Leipzig über das Programm gefördert. Nun erhalten erneut bis zu 24 fortgeschrittene Postdoktorandinnen, Habilitandinnen, Nachwuchswissenschaftlerinnen und Juniorprofessorinnen die Chance, in ihrer wissenschaftlichen Karriere von erfahrenen Mentorinnen und Mentoren individuell begleitet und unterstützt zu werden. Ziel ist die Vermittlung von Kenntnissen, Kompetenzen und Kontakten, die für eine effiziente Planung und Verfolgung einer Karriere in der Wissenschaft förderlich sind.

Das Programm richtet sich an Wissenschaftlerinnen an den Standorten Halle, Jena und Leipzig, die das Berufsziel einer Professur anstreben und eine mindestens zweijährige selbstständige wissenschaftliche Tätigkeit als Postdoktorandin, in der Regel im Anschluss an die Promotion, vorweisen können. Im Mittelpunkt steht das One-to-One-Mentoring durch erfahrene Professorinnen und Professoren. Dieses wird flankiert von Fortbildungsangeboten zu karriererelevanten Schlüsselqualifikationen und der Möglichkeit, langfristig unterstützende interdisziplinäre Peer-Kontakte anzubahnen. Die Programmteilnahme erstreckt sich über ein Jahr; eine Verlängerung um ein weiteres Jahr ist möglich.

Bewerbungsschluss ist der 28. Februar 2019.

Call for proposals
Grants for foreign female students at the final stage of their PhD

The Prorectorate for Structure and strategic Development awards grants for female PhD students of the Martin-Luther-University, starting 1st October 2018, funded by the Ministry Federal for Education and Research.
Financial support is only possible for foreign female students. At the time of application they must be at the final stage of their PhD, they must be enrolled as students at the Martin-Luther-University and accepted as PhD students by the PhD committee of their faculty. Their stay must be temporary for the purpose of their PhD studies, with existential insecurity towards the final stage of their PhD (for example because of a contract or grant expiring).

The deadline for applications is 22th June 2018.

Material- und Pflanzenforschung: Millionen für Graduiertenschulen

Viel Geld für exzellenten wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchs: An der Uni Halle entstehen unter dem Namen "Agripoly" zwei neue internationale Graduiertenschulen in den Agrar- und den Polymerwissenschaften. Ziel der beiden Programme ist es, die universitäre Ausbildung von Doktorandinnen und Doktoranden in anwendungsorientierten Forschungsbereichen zu stärken. Der Universität stehen dafür rund vier Millionen Euro aus Mitteln des Europäischen Struktur- und Investitionsfonds zur Verfügung.

Hochrangige EU-Förderung: Universität Halle wirbt mit Partnern europäisches Doktorandennetzwerk ein

Prof. Dr. Daniel Cyranka und PD Dr. Friedemann Stengel von der Theologischen Fakultät der Universität Halle haben mit Partnern aus Aarhus, Kent, Münster, Mailand und Prag den Zuschlag für ein EU-gefördertes Doktorandennetzwerk erhalten, das die Entstehung der Konzepte von Menschenwürde und freiem Willen in der christlichen Tradition erforscht. Von der Förderungsumme von rund 3,6 Millionen Euro für vier Jahre erhält die MLU 20 Prozent - knapp 750.000 Euro.
